Phyno did not start his musical career as a singer, but first chose to become a music producer. He started raping in 2010 before moving to Lagos the same year to pursue his musical career.
He told the Nigeria Tribune that he had been raped in Igbo because he respected his culture and loved nature. Although he sings mainly in Igbo, his music rarely incorporates Pidgin in English and Nigerian. As a record producer, he worked with Timaya, Flavor, Ruggedman, Bracket, J. Martins collaborated with M. Raw and other artists.
